Russell Whitmore was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, but it wasn't until he moved to Texas, that his instincts towards art took hold. Since he was a child, he was always drawn to creativity, first through photography, then through painting. In 6th grade he began studying under Lily Adamczyk who taught him fundamentals: hold a brush, how to blend, and how to paint. Those early lessons built the foundation for everything that followed.
During his freshman year, a conversation with a family friend, an artist, living a life he deeply admired, changed his perspective. He broke down what it takes to build a creative life, and Russell took that knowledge, and went home to follow that blueprint.
The following year his family moved to Texas. Before he even unpacked he bought a 36” by 48” canvas, some paint, a lamp, and some brushes and started painting again, new space to focus solely on his art. A photography class he was taking, reignited his passion, pushing him to shoot constantly and refining his artistic eye.
Today, with a renewed sense of artistic purpose, Russell is committed to painting with acrylics and celebrating ornate details. He strives to showcase the vastness of spiritual occupancy and forces the viewer to see the divine in the mundane. He draws influence from religious architecture and sculpture, drawing the eye to all corners of the canvas with his talent for detail and 3-dimensional imagery.
